Fox news is reporting that DHS says that assaults on ICE personel are up 1300%.

I’m not surprised. But the reason this is happening is because the police aren’t enforcing the law.

My understanding is that ICE are not cops. They have extremely limited investigative powers. They can’t, for example, conduct traffic stops without specific probable cause such as the vehicle is a KNOWN illegal immigrant’s car. Tell you to get out of your car is an illegal order when it comes from ICE.

Everyone is acknowledging that ICE’s behavior is crap and the way they’re conducting themselves is wrong. That it will lead to violence. But they never go so far as to say unlawful.

That lack of acknowledgement from anyone in authority is causing this. Their lack of ACTION to hold ICE agents accountable for their illegal behavior is causing this.

People no longer believe any branch of law enforcement will stand up to bring this organization back within it’s mandate. So they’re rising up themselves, because of law enforcement’s abdication of their responsibility to their citizens.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. The supreme court ruled in 2008 that the police have no duty to protect you. (see: Warren v. District of Columbia , DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services , Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales)

Whenever I do something illegal, even if it’s a mistake, I get a consequence. People are tired of law enforcement who breaks the law. Rules for thee but not for me. I know I am.
